Which character count is correct — with or without spaces?
It depends on the submission requirements. Many personal statements and academic papers specify 'excluding spaces,' so always check the guidelines before submitting. This tool displays both counts at the same time.
Can it calculate the number of manuscript pages?
Yes, it automatically calculates page counts based on 200-character (10×20) and 400-character (20×20) manuscript grids. Just enter your text and the result appears instantly.
How are words counted?
Words are separated by whitespace (spaces and line breaks). Korean text is counted by spacing units, and each space-delimited token in English is counted as one word.
Why does the byte count differ from the character count?
In UTF-8 encoding, one Korean character takes up 3 bytes, while Latin letters and digits take 1 byte each. Byte count matters when checking file sizes or database column length limits.
Can I paste a long text and count it right away?
