Frequently Asked Questions

How does this Korean crossword work?

Each clue is shown in English and the answer is a Korean word. Tap a cell to pick a word, then tap the Korean letter tiles below in order. When the word is full it is checked right away. Tap the same cell again to switch between across and down.

Do I need a Korean keyboard?

No. Every word comes with 12 letter tiles that include its syllables, so you only tap. This makes it usable for beginners who cannot type Hangul yet.

Is it suitable for beginners?

Words come from the National Institute of Korean Language's Basic Korean Dictionary and each clue shows its level (beginner, intermediate or advanced). Most puzzles mix everyday beginner and intermediate words.

When does a new puzzle come out?

Every day at midnight Korea time. Everyone solves the same puzzle on the same day, so you can compare times with friends.

Can I play more puzzles?

The web version has one puzzle a day. The Sulsul Korean crossword app has 200 puzzles by level with English clues. It is available on the App Store and Google Play.

Where do the words and translations come from?

The Basic Korean Dictionary (CC BY-SA 2.0 KR) by the National Institute of Korean Language, including its English translations.

A daily Korean crossword for learners

One new puzzle every day at midnight Korea time. Clues are in English and the answers are Korean words, so it works as vocabulary practice: you read the meaning and build the word from Hangul syllables. Instead of typing, you tap from 12 letter tiles, so you do not need a Korean keyboard.

How to play

  • Tap a cell to select the word that runs through it. Tap it again to switch between across and down.
  • Tap the letter tiles in order. When every cell of the word is filled it is checked right away; wrong letters are cleared.
  • Letters you already solved stay in place and help with crossing words.
  • Stuck? Letter fills one cell, Word solves the whole word. Hints are unlimited and only counted.

After you finish

The result shows your time, hints used and your daily streak, plus a list of today's words with their English meaning and the original Korean definition. Reading the Korean definitions is a good next step once the words feel familiar.

About the words

Words, definitions and English translations come from the National Institute of Korean Language'sBasic Korean Dictionary (CC BY-SA 2.0 KR). Loanwords and foreign trivia are left out. The same puzzles are in the Sulsul crossword app, which has 200 puzzles by level. Your progress stays in this browser and is never sent to a server.
